Uncle Roger’s Restaurant Opening Next Month: What You Need to Know
Malaysia's beloved comedian opens his first restaurant, Fuiyoh! The question is, will it be Halal?
Famous comedian Nigel Ng, known for his hilarious character Uncle Roger, is set to open his first restaurant in Malaysia next month. The highly anticipated eatery will be located at Level 7 in Pavilion Elite, Kuala Lumpur, and is stated to be halal.
Opening Date and Special Event
The restaurant is scheduled to open on September 11th, 2024. To celebrate the grand opening, Uncle Roger is inviting fans to dress up as his iconic character on September 14th in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the most people dressed as the same person in one place. Uncle Roger recently announced on Instagram, “We’re going to film a YouTube video where we break a Guinness World Record.” Participants are encouraged to dress up as YouTube characters, with many expected to imitate Uncle Roger himself.
To pull off the look, fans should wear an orange polo, a black bag, short or long black pants, regular sneakers, and, most importantly, a belt phone case. Uncle Roger emphasized that these details are key to becoming a clone of him. The first 300 people who show up dressed like him will receive a discount voucher.
Halal Certification
One of the most exciting aspects of Uncle Roger’s restaurant is that it will be halal, catering to the needs of Muslim diners. However, this plan has left many people puzzled, especially after his collaboration with MìLà, a Chinese food brand from the US. While the Creamy Chili Crab Pasta kit does not explicitly state haram ingredients, MìLà also offers non-halal options like Pork Soup Dumpling. This has raised questions among fans about whether the restaurant will genuinely meet the halal requirements and if it will truly cater to Muslim diners.
Menu Highlights
While the full menu is not yet finalized, Uncle Roger has promised that his signature fried rice will be a staple dish. Recently, he collaborated with renowned Korean-American chef David Chang, founder of the Momofuku Restaurant, in a YouTube video titled “This Chef Tell Uncle Roger To SHUT UP?” In this video, Uncle Roger reacts to and critiques the way David cooks egg fried rice, humorously noting that he has always had fried rice in his home every day. He also mentioned, “Uncle Roger is opening my own restaurant in September. Every dish is going to have MSG.” Fans can expect a delightful blend of flavors and a touch of humor in every plate, as Ng is known for his unique culinary commentary and cultural references.
