Pasaraya Borong Sakan, now a leading retail brand in Malaysia, began with modest roots. Its founder, Dato’ Haji Che Umar, stumbled upon an opportunity to sell a few things to his close circle of friends. He used part of his salary as a government servant to sell more items and eventually began supplying local supermarkets before opening his first shop.
Today, the brand has 65 outlets across the country, a testament to identifying and seizing opportunities. The retail industry poses daily challenges, from the global economy to new competitors, logistics issues, and manpower management. However, the biggest challenge of all is to sustain the business and remain relevant in the market, which can only be achieved by adapting quickly to changes and taking calculated risks.
