Selangor’s goals to promote the use of electric vehicles (EV) for the purpose of reducing 45% of emissions by the normal cars. To meet the goals, Selangor aims to build 1,000 EV charging stations in that state by December 2023, which are currently progressing. The areas that will be covered in Selangor are especially in Shah Alam, Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya, Klang, Kajang, and Ampang Jaya.
Hee Loy Sian, Caretaker Chairman of the Orang Asli Affairs Committee, said about the amount of EVs as of July 2023: “As of now, there are 102 EV charging units under local authorities in Selangor, with Majlis Perbandaran Sepang having the highest number at 29.”
In this month of September, another ten new EV stations are now available at several locations in Shah Alam, Selangor. The free EV stations are a result of collaboration between MBSA and Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water (KeTTHA), who aimed to foster the highest standard for transportation research and practice. With this, many private firms are now looking to collaborate with Majlis Bandaraya Shah Alam (MBSA) to build more EV charging stations.
Nor Fuad Abdul Hamid, 10th mayor of Shah Alam said “We are streamlining it with the Town and Country Planning Department (PLANMalaysia) because the guidelines have just been launched, as well as from the Transport Ministry. In terms of technical installations, it will be endorsed by the Energy Commission (ST).”
He also mentioned some of the free EV stations locations are:
- Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque
- Wisma MBSA
- MBSA branch offices
The Shah Alam mayor said MBSA is now identifying locations that are suitable and meet the needs and demands of the EV vehicle consumer, such as city centers and shopping centers in Shah Alam, Selangor.
